A Night Without Electricity

It is Friday evening. Jack is having dinner with his parents and little sister when the lights suddenly go out.

“Oh no! What happened?” Jack asks.

“The power is out,” Dad says. “Don’t worry. It will come back soon.”

Jack feels unhappy because he cannot watch his favorite TV show after dinner.

Mom gets two flashlights from a drawer. The family finishes dinner and sits together in the living room.

“Let’s play a game!” Jack’s little sister says.

They play a guessing game. Everyone laughs when Dad gives a funny answer.

Then Mom tells them a story about her childhood. Jack listens carefully. He has never heard this story before.

After an hour, the lights come back on.

“Great! We have electricity again!” Jack says.

But he does not turn on the TV. Instead, he asks, “Can we play another game?”

Everyone smiles. It is a special evening for the whole family.
