The Birthday Gift

Today is Ben’s birthday. He is eleven years old. His mom makes a cake for him, and his dad gives him a new schoolbag.

At school, Ben’s friends sing “Happy Birthday” to him. Everyone is happy, but Ben sees his friend Tom sitting alone. Tom looks sad.

Ben walks over and asks, “What’s wrong?”

Tom says, “I don’t have any money to buy you a gift.”

Ben smiles and says, “That’s okay. You’re my friend. I don’t need a gift.”
