A Bus Speeding Downhill

A Bus Speeding Downhill

Officer: Good afternoon. Do you know why I pulled you over?
Driver: Not really, officer. Is there a problem?
Officer: You were going 65 in a 45-mile-per-hour zone coming down that hill.
Driver: But I was going downhill. The bus picked up speed because the hill was so steep.
Officer: I understand, but you’re still responsible for keeping your speed under control.
Driver: I was trying to slow down. It’s not easy to control a bus this heavy on a steep hill.
Officer: That’s why you need to slow down before going downhill and use a lower gear.
Driver: I get that, but I don’t think it’s fair to give me a ticket just because the bus picked up speed.
Officer: I understand what you’re saying, but the speed limit still applies, even when you’re going downhill.
Driver: So you’re still going to give me a ticket?
Officer: Yes. I’m issuing you a citation for speeding.
Driver: How much is the fine? Is this going to affect my driving record?
Officer: The citation will explain your options. You can contact the court if you have questions about the fine or your record.
Driver: All right, officer. I still don’t agree, but I’ll be more careful going downhill.
