Talking About Movies

Alex: Hey, did you catch that new sci-fi movie The Signal yet?
Jordan: Nah, not yet. Everyone’s been talking about it though. Is it actually good or just overhyped?
Alex: Honestly? Way better than I expected. The trailer made it look kinda generic, but the story was wild.
Jordan: Really? I thought it looked like another Interstellar wannabe.
Alex: That’s what I thought too! But it’s more psychological—like Black Mirror meets Arrival.
Jordan: Okay, now you’ve got my attention. How’s the ending? Please tell me it’s not one of those “it was all a dream” things.
Alex: (laughs) Nah, it’s a solid twist, not a lazy one. You’ll walk out questioning everything, though.
Jordan: Nice. I’ve been craving something that actually makes me think. Lately it’s all sequels and remakes.
Alex: For real. Hollywood’s running out of ideas. I’d rather watch some low-budget indie film with a fresh plot.
Jordan: Same. Last week I watched this tiny indie on Netflix called Moonlight Drive. Never heard of it before, but man, it hit hard.
Alex: Oh yeah? What’s it about?
Jordan: Two friends driving across the country after college, trying to figure out life. It’s super raw and real.
Alex: Sounds like something I’d love. Send me the link later.
Jordan: Bet. By the way, what’s your all-time favorite movie?
Alex: Tough question. Probably Inception. It just never gets old.
Jordan: Good pick. Mine’s Whiplash. Every time I watch it, I end up air-drumming like an idiot.
Alex: (laughs) Yeah, that movie’s intense. “Are you rushing or dragging?”—iconic line!
Jordan: Facts. I swear I can feel my heartbeat syncing with the drum solo every time.

Alex: Tough – Inception – never – old.
Jordan: Good – Whiplash – watch – end – air-drumming – idiot.
Alex: (laughs) -movie – intense – rushing – dragging – iconic line!
Jordan: Facts – swear – feel – heartbeat – drum solo.

“It looked like another Interstellar wannabe”

like Black Mirror meets Arrival
“It’s like Black Mirror meets Arrival.”

It’s a solid twist, not a lazy one.
It’s a solid performance.
That ending felt lazy.
The writing was lazy.

indie film
“indie” = independent(独立的) 的缩写。
所以 indie film = independent film = 独立电影。
不是由 Disney, Warner Bros, Universal, Paramount, Sony, Netflix 这些大公司出资拍的;

it hit hard

super raw and real

all-time
your all-time favorite movie = “你最喜欢的一部电影(从小到大、一直以来最爱)。”

air-drumming
